Atlantia University, 113a and 113b

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

Events always rekindle “the dream” for me. Ever since moving to Atlantia, University has been one of my favorite events – I LOVE taking classes! This session was partly in-person which made an enormous difference in my ability to concentrate on the classes I took, but also the range of classes available. Certain topics do not translate as well through the online platform. Case in point, I was able to learn simple rhythms on finger cymbals and received useful feedback from the instructor on how to hold them better so as to avoid finger fatigue and injury. You can’t do that on Zoom!

Project example of beaded edges

One of my absolute favorite classes this session was an introduction to beaded edges taught by Elspeth Mereberie of Shepton Mallet. Again, the in-person format was important as Elspeth was able to notice a discrepancy in my work where I had detoured from the instructions.

Very excited to use these new skills to create largesse for a gift basket my Baroness will be delivering to the King and Queen of Aethelmarc at Pennsic! While I am not yet a master of any particular tangible A&S skills, I do like to challenge myself to improve by having goals to work towards – such as largesse baskets or competitions! My next project will be goblet covers that feature beaded edges learned at this university and embroidery techniques picked up at the most recent Hawkwood Newcomer’s Day.
